Blast from the Past: Fear of radiation "is all a bunch of BS"

Matt Brown, a former mayor of Edgemont, South Dakota says he ain't afraid of no radiation, and holds a uranium nugget in his mouth to prove it. (from Life magazine, July 1984.) Edgemont is the site of Powertech's proposed Dewey-Burdock uranium project. Another former Edgemont mayor, current Powertech employee, and self-described nuclear energy expert Mark Hollenbeck sounds a similar note in a September 22 article in the Lynchburg (VA) News & Advance: "it’s easy to scare people about the effects of radiation."
